  4.    Rudy Pulido, Pastor of Southwest Baptist Church in St. Louis and long
  5. time President of the St. Louis Chapter of AU recently received AU's
  6. prestigious "Religious Liberty Award" for being "...the voice of
  7. religious liberty in Missouri." The award was presented by AU Trustee Al
  8. Walker, former head of the San Francisco Chapter of the American
  9. Humanist Association.
  10.  
  11.    The St. Louis Chapter of AU operates out of Southwest Baptist Church
  12. in St. Louis.
  13.  
  14.    James F. Hornback has served on the board of the St. Louis Chapter of
  15. AU since the 1950's. Mr. Hornback was formerly the Secretary of the
  16. Board of Directors of the American Humanist Association, Co-Founder of
  17. the International Humanist and Ethical Union and a signer of the
  18. _Humanist Manifesto II_.

  20.    Ten signers of the _Humanist Manifesto II_ have served on the executive
  21. staff or the governing board of AU and according to AU, the St. Louis
  22. Chapter was founded as the result of the work of Humanist Paul
  23. Blanshard. (See Chart #5)

  25.    Bob Terry, Editor of the _Word and Way_, the official journal of the
  26. Missouri Baptist Convention with a weekly circulation of over 50,000 has
  27. served on the governing board of the national AU organization and
  28. continues to use his position as editor to promote AU among Missouri
  29. Baptists.

  31.    According to one inside AU source: "AU had more members per capita in
  32. Missouri than anywhere else."

  34.    Bunnie Riedel has been hired by American's United as their new
  35. Director of Chapters and Faith Groups. She was formerly the Executive
  36. Director of the Southern California Religious Coalition for Abortion
  37. Rights (RCAR).

  39.    AU's Executive Director, Reverend/Attorney Barry Lynn, was formerly
  40. the legislative counsel for the Washington office of the ACLU. Mr. Lynn
  41. recently reaffirmed his (and the ACLU's) position on national television
  42. that child pornography should be protected by the First Amendment.

  44.    G. Robert Boston, Associate Editor of AU's journal, _Church and
  45. State_, is a self-proclaimed secular Humanist who formerly served on the
  46. board of directors of the Washington Area Secular Humanist (WASH)
  47. organization.

  49.    The current legal counsel for AU Steven K. Green, was formally a
  50. board member of the Vermont ACLU.
  51.  
  52.    AU's new Editorial Assistant, Susan Hansen, was a staff member of the
  53. Washington office of the ACLU.

  55.    The current legislative council for the ACLU, Robert Peck, and the
  56. ACLU's legal director, Steven Pershing, both serve on the governing
  57. board of AU.

  59.    For 16 years, Edd Doerr served on the executive staff of AU. Doerr
  60. was a signer of the _Humanist Manifesto II_ and later became Chairman of
  61. the Board of the American Humanist Association. Most of Doerr's 16 years
  62. at AU were spent serving as editor of AU's journal, _Church and State_.

  64.    AU's Executive Director, Barry Lynn, and numerous other AU board
  65. members oppose tax exempt status for churches as a matter of "religious
  66. freedom."

  68.    AU was a leader in efforts to eliminate what they termed "antiquated
  69. laws restricting abortion" during the 1960s.

  71.    AU supported _Roe v. Wade_ and by 1978 had filed a friend-of-the-court
  72. brief arguing that to deny tax payer dollars for the funding of
  73. "elective abortions" was to violate both the Free Exercise and No
  74. Establishment clauses of the First Amendment.

  76.    AU filed a friend-of-the-court brief in support of the pro-abortion
  77. position in the _Missouri - Webster v. Reproductive Health Services_ case
  78. which gave the abortion issue back to the states.
  79.  
  80.    Attorney Sarah Weddington, an AU Trustee, argued the pro-abortion
  81. position in the _Roe v. Wade_ decision.
